Nabunturan locals showcased world-class talents during the Simballay festival different competitions, embodying unity as they come up with spectacular performances.

Nabunturan locals showcased world-class talents during the 22nd staging of Simballay Festival held last December 12-16, 2016 at the Municipal Plaza, with the theme “Usa ka Katawhan alang sa Kalambuan”, aiming to celebrate culture and bountiful harvest in the municipality of Nabunturan.

Several activities were lined-up for the week-long celebration of Simballay Festival, featuring Educators’ Day, Baranggay Booth Contest, Ethnic Parade, Paskuhan sa Simballay: Inter-School Choral Competition, Music in the Night, Hudyaka sa Simballay, Pista sa Ani, Baranggayanihan: Pop Icon Lip Sync Battle, Lanog sa Nabunturan, Garbo ng Nabunturan Season 7, LGU Cup: Championship Games, and Iwag sa Kadalanan.

Participants from neighboring places joined the newly introduced competitions such as Giant Parol-making contest wherein recyclable materials were used. Barangay Katipunan won as Grand Winner followed by Barangay San Roque (1st runner-up) and Barangay Cabacungan (2nd runner-up). Tugtugan sa Simballay, showcasing a local band, was also added to make the festival more lively.

Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School (NNCHS) finished strong for they bagged the first prize for Iwag sa Kadalanan along with their Simballay Festival Queen, Ericka Jean Lumen, as they showcased a well-choreographed, synchronized, and upbeat dance routine. Other winners of the light parade are Magsaysay High School Annex (2nd Placer) and Manat Central Elementary School (3rd Placer).

To add up to the list of victories, NNCHS teachers were also triumphant during the Educators’ Day Zumba Contest, after showing off a fantastic zumba routine with a bit of a skit to promote the health benefits of exercise.

Paskuhan sa Simballay: Inter-School Choral Competition judges unanimously decided to hail San Roque Elementary School for Elementary Division and Kao National High School for Secondary Division as first placers.

Next to San Roque Elementary School were Nabunturan Central Elementary School SPED Center (2nd Placer) and Manat Central Elementray Schoo (3rd Placer). For the Secondary Divison, Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School ranked second followed by Manat National High School, bagging the third spot.

Municipal Agricultural Office spearheaded the Pista sa Ani in Baranggay Booths featuring the Best Tasting Lechon Contest participated by clustered Barangays of Nabunturan. The clustered Barangays of Linda, New Sibonga, and Mipangi were hailed as the first placer, followed by the clustered Barangays of Sta. Maria, Cabidianan, and Antequera.

On one hand the clustered barangays of Manat, Anislagan, and Cabacungan got the first place for the Barangay Booth Competiton, while the clustered barangays of Magsaysay, Basak, and Pangutusan bagged the second spot, followed by the clustered barangays of Ogao, New Dauis, and Magading.

People got to see famous pop icons perform on stage through the Baranggayanihan: Lip Sync Battle, wherein Barangay Cabacungan celebrity Madonna won first prize, while Lady Gaga of Barangay Mipangi and Britney Spears of Barangay Ogao ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In Lanog sa Nabunturan: Drum and Xylophones Competition, the drum and bugle corps from Tagnocon Elementary School captured the hearts of the judges for they landed first place, followed by Manat Central Elementary School, and then lastly, New Sibonga Elementary School.

On the fourth day, audience stood in awe as the Garbo ng Nabunturan Season 7 finalists emerged on stage in modern attires and sang pop songs during their production number.

Juvie Lasaca, representing Bayabas National High School, finally bagged the grand winner title after joining Garbo ng Nabunturan for the third time. Aside from the cash prize, she will be representing the municipality in the upcoming Garbo Comvalenyo on March.

Nicka Arsenio of Assumption College of Nabunturan finished second, while Marymie Gellipa from Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School ranked third, respectively.

Barangay Poblacion was hailed as champion of the LGU Cup: Basketball Games, while other winners are Barangay Bukal (First runner-up), followed by Barangay Magsaysay (2nd-runner up), and then Barangay Katipunan (3rd-runner up). While in the volleyball games, Barangay Ogao won first place, Barangay Antequera was First Runner-up, Barangay San Roque was second-runner up, and lastly Barangay Bayabas.

Participants from Tagum City joined the newly introduced activity, where MRS Family finished as champion for the Rap Battle, while JC Cortez was announced as the winner for Beatbox contest.

For the Simballay Festival Finale, Tres Marias namely Cooky Chua, Bayang Barios, and Lolita Carbon flew from Manila to entertain both the young and the old locals of Nabunturan with OPM classics. People in their old age stayed late at night just to listen to their kind of music, that is way different from the present times.
