23rd Simballay Festival: Pagpasalamat, Paglipay, Pag-inambitay

Nabunturan Compostela Valley — The annual festival celebrating unique Mansaka culture will once again kick-off this year, centering on the showcase of the practices of Mansaka tribe and thanksgiving for the bountiful harvests of the municipality.

It will be jam-packed December for the Nabunturanon as activities will start early this month, starting with the Christmas Lights-on Ceremony cum Anti-Smoking campaign launching on December 4, followed by Educators’ Day on December 7 at the Assumption College of Nabunturan Gym. On Nov. 11, establishment owners will convene for the Entrepreneurs’ day at the Municipal Gym.

A grand opening program awaits the people eager for picture taking and merry making for there will be lights-on of the barangay booths and tribal unity house as the highlight. A crossover of fashion and environmental conservation will also be showcased during the Recyclo model challenge at night.

The second day will be allocated solely for the sharing and appreciating of Mansaka Tribe’s culture through the Ethnic Parade, Tribal Day Program and Kasalan ng Tribo. Government agency employees, teachers, and barangay councils and functionaries are encouraged to wear an ethnic attire during the parade.

The night will be a whole new vibe for there will be an Open Christmas Carol Contest for students while the same contest will be staged on the third day to be participated by various Nabunturan Barangay officials, functionaries, and task force only.

On December 13, will be the Hudyaka sa Simballay at the Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School gym for the whole day, which will happen simultaneously with Reformed Voluntary Surrenders Basketball Tournament at the Municipal Covered Court and Handog Titulo at the Municipal Assessor’s Office.

Along Arabejo Avenue, will be the intricately designed barangay booths featuring Pista sa Ani, an agro-industrial trade fare of crops and products from their barangays, and Best-Tasting Lechon Contest.

Youth-centered programs will be dotting the fourth day, beginning with Lanog sa Nabunturan at the Nabunturan Central Elementary Oval Grounds. In the afternoon will be the grand launching of the Municipal Youth Development Council, composed of young brilliant minds who will serve as the voice for the youth sector.

At night will be the Garbo ng Nabunturan Season 8 with 10 aspiring singers competing to be a star. This will be followed by the unity night featuring national artists. (Marga Melendres)
