Celebrating the 61st Araw ng Nabunturan will never be complete without the challenging and exciting sports competition. This year, the people of Nabunturan feasted their eyes and endured the heat with various events in the field of Amateur Boxing, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Chess on July 21-23, 2018.

During the 3rd NUFC Football Festival, in the Nabunturan Central Elementary School (NCES) grounds, RMC football club team won in the 8 under mixed category. While TCPU football club from Tagum championed the 11 under and 13 under category.

While Montevista football club triumphed the 15 under category, and Monkayo football club won the 16 under category.

On the second day, under 17 category, Montevista championed the event. In the women’s open category, RMC Blacknights whipped the championship and in the men’s category, OCAM boys won the event.

In the game of Basketball, under the Inter Municipality Open Junior category, the Municipality of Compostela championed the event. The Nabunturan BJMLT team ranked 1st place, while in the 2nd place is the Nabunturan Mark Chan team.

On one hand, in the Inter Municipality Open Top 40 category, the Municipality of Nabunturan won the championship; Municipality of Monkayo bagged the 1st place, the Municipality of Compostela garnered 2nd place; and the Municipality of Mawab the 3rd place.

In the Inter School (16 years old and under) category, players from the Ford Academy of Davao City won the Championship. Further, Emar Learning Center of Davao City ranked 1st place, Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School ranked 2nd place, and Rizal Memorial Colleges of Davao City ranked 3rd place.

In Volleyball, open category, Barangay Ogao was proclaimed as Champion. While players from Brgy. Poblacion won 1st place, Brgy. Basak won 2nd place, and Brgy. Antequera won 3rd place.

And in Table Tennis, under 12-year old (Boys) category, Jhiven Clamucha from Nabunturan triumphed 1st place. Followed by players from Lupon, Shemkim Lucernas who won 2nd place, Jehim Avila who won 3rd place, and Dybon Loting who won 4th place.

Under 12-year old (Girls) category, Angela Marianito from Butuan City won 1st place, while Mariela Retiza from Lupon won 2nd place. Mae Ratificar, also from Lupon, won 3rd place and Dee Ann Enaro from Santo Tomas won 4th place.

Further, under 17-year old (Boys) category, Shem Cubio from Tadeco won 1st place. Drexter Quiros from Lupon won 2nd place, Nelvi Anoc from Butuan City won 3rd place, and Jhiven Clamucha from Nabunturan won 4th place. While in the ladies’ category, Cielo Bernaldez from Panabo City slayed the competition and won 1st place, Desree Caga-anan from Lupon won 2nd place, Janna Perez also from Lupon won 3rd place, and Novie Montealto from Tadeco won 4th place.

In the game of brains and strategy -chess, Donna Calolo from New Bataan ranked 1st place in the “under 14” category. While Neri Lou Mayo from Nabunturan was awarded Best Female player and Jielly Abao was awarded the Youngest player. In Class B category, Leonardo Calolo from New Bataan won 1st place. And in Class A category, Garry Fernandez from Nabunturan won 1st place.

Motocross Competition 2018

Despite the prickling heat and dust, the Nabunturanons watched with ecstasy, the Motocross competition in Barangay San Roque, Nabunturan, Compostela Valley province on July 21, 2018. The event was organized by the Motomix Riders Club of Nabunturan.

The competition was participated by more than 150 motocross racers from various provinces in Mindanao who astounded the crowd in their mind-blowing tricks and riding maneuvers. In the Pro Expert category, Harvy Gaje all the way from North Cotabato bagged 1st place. In the Expert category, Terrence Napat, also from North Cotabato won 1st place. While in the Novice category, Dodoy Bandigan from Mati City championed the race.

In the Enduro category, Takoy Remperas from Compostela Valley won 1st place. While Wendell Verallo from Kiblawan, Davao del Sur won 1st place in the 50/65 PeeWee category. In the Underbone/Pantra category, Aljun Sumile from Santo Tomas, won 1st place.

Two categories in this sport that people came to witness were the Mini and Ladies category. It showcases young talented kids, male (mini) and female (ladies), who came to compete with the same fervor and conviction as the adults in the competition. In the Mini category, Charlie Vince Pascua from Mati City bagged 1st place. While Susie Ann Magarang won 1st place in the Ladies category.

Another highlight of the occasion was the “Run Race” event which brought much delight to the viewers of the Motocross competition. The competitors, some in barefoot, sprinted the track course wearing a helmet. Mr. Romel Galingan from Nabunturan won 1st prize, Jim Fernandez (Nabunturan) won 2nd prize, and Alfredo Pala won 3rd prize.
