Reinforcing the implementation of RA 9003, or the “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000” in the municipality, a Recycling Training was conducted in FITS Center, Municipal Agricultural Office (MAGRO) on September 29-30, 2018.
The event was spearheaded by the Municipal Environment Resources Office (MENRO), in cooperation with Municipal 4Ks organization together with LGU-Nabunturan,
The participants on the said event were 4Ks president among the 28 barangays of Nabunturan with MENRO personnel and staffs.
The training was conducted to help youth leaders learn some innovative ways to earn for their organization while instilling the importance of sustainable development.
It also sought to teach them the value of resourcefulness in turning what is considered ‘garbage’ to usable and quality-efficient products.
With the lack of Pasalubong Centers in the municipality, this activity also generated the idea of creating products from recycled materials that will benefit the locals and promote sustainability through incorporating the 5Rs: Reuse, Recycle, Restore, Replenish, Reduce.
Guiding the participants through the accessory-making and candle-making activities were Ms. Elena Mabano from Toril City, an expert in accessory-making and Mr. Juanillo Romero for candle-making.
During the said training, brochures, used papers, plastics, and other materials were used by the participants creating fashionable and colorful earrings, necklace, rosary, keychain and other magnetized accessories.
In candle-making, the participants were taught how to turn recyclable materials like Yakult container, soft drink plastic bottles, and hard drink bottles into molders for the candles.
