The Local Government Unit of Nabunturan in partnership with the Assumption College of Nabunturan (ACN) stood united in the launching of “Tree Growing along Banks and Flood-prone Areas Project” in the flood-prone area of Purok 7, Barangay Basak.

The said project is in its initial stage, as such representatives from the office of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRMO), Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO), Municipal Planning and Development (MPDO), and ACN conducted a GPS survey to identify the area and estimate the number of Maribago seedlings needed.

Ms. Jennifer F. Echavez, MDRRM Officer, expressed, “I mark this one as a milestone sa Local Government Unit of Nabunturan kay first ni siya nga mahitabo siguro sa tibuok ComVal, nga diin mag-tree planting [growing] ta sa mga flood-prone area”.

She was also happy to announce that, “Sa pagkakaron ang gipangayo ni SB Secuya nga half million para ani nga activity kay approve na…”, and urge everyone to work together for the success of this significant project.

Committee Chair on Environment, SB Francis Secuya also announced that the LGU is also evaluating the need to establish an Eco Park in every barangay, as mandated by law and as one of the town’s climate change mitigating measures.

He then expressed his sentiments to the said activity, “Ang gusto nato dinhi nga pag-abot sa panahon, kini nga project makasagang sa trahedya sama sa  baha, ug mamahimo pod ni siyang attraction para nato”. The event was attended by Honorable Alim Sotto, ACN representatives’ Sir Jeric Villan and Ma’am Janice Sepin, MENR Officer Ms. Geraldine Pizaras and staff, MPDC staff Mr. Nike Logronio, NERT responders, Barangay Basak officials and dignitaries, and the occupants of Purok 7 along with their Chairwoman.
