Barangay Matilo, lies on a sloping plain along the foothills of Andapon and is 11.5 kilometers east-southwest of Nabunturan town. It was once a sitio of Manat, a barangay just across the river by the same name. It was created into a barangay by virtue of a Provincial Board Resolution No. I, dated May 25, 1967 by then undivided Province of DAVAO, on June 10, 1967, a special election was held at the Matilo Primary School for the first set of barrio officials.

The MANSAKAS, were the first inhabitants found by settlers who came before the last WORLD WAR. The place was already known as Matilo, and why or how it came to be called as such has no real answer. But ask anymore these days and the speedy answer is “WAY MATILA” a Visayan term for “Theres nothing to have”.

Barangay Matilo Hymn

O matilo na pinangga

Labing bilihon nga mutya

Sa atong Compostela Valley

Diin kami ang nawili

Sa patag mung kabunturan

Anindot ang mga kaumahan

Mahigugmaon ang tanan

Pagyukbo sa kahitas-an

O Matilo na pinangga

Ikaw ang among himaya

Kaming imong mga anak

Kanimo gayud na moagak

Sa kalisod ug kalipay

Onongan ka sa kanunay

 Sa kagubot ugkalinaw

Imong bandila ibayaw
