Nabunturan Independent Film Exhibition (NABIFILMEX) Festival Director Atty. Karen Santiago-Malaki receives Governor’s Excellence Award in appreciation for her contribution in the field of Culture and Arts last March 5, 2017 at the Session Hall, Capitol Building, Compostela Valley.

The award was handed by Governor Jayvee Tyron L. Uy during the Bulawanong Pasidungog in celebration of the 10th Bulawan Festival and 19th Founding Anniversary.

Atty. Malaki won the award against three other nominees from other municipalities for her notable leadership in driving the NABIFILMEX by spurring a local film industry, & cultivating homegrown talents in the promotion of film tourism.

With her stewardship, NABIFILMEX has grown bigger and has gained funding support and recognition from various organizations both local and international, eventually paved the way in making the Municipality of Nabunturan as one of Mindanao’s film hub and further made it part of the roadmap of the film industry in the country.

NABIFILMEX also paved the way in the future construction of Cinematheque, the first movie theatre in the province.

Furthermore, Nabunturan continues to gain recognition in the independent film industry as it will host the 9th staging of Cinema Rehiyon, an annual national film festival, on August 2017.

The award is given to the locals of Compostela Valley with remarkable accomplishments in the fields such as Public Service, Culture and Arts, Science and Technology, Entrepreneurship and Employment creation that are worthy of recognition and emulation.
