On the 3rd day of June, the Local Government Unit of Nabunturan with Local Chief Executive Chelita C. Amatong and the Environment Resources Section headed by Ms. Geraldine Pizaras launches Basura Ko, Eskwela Mo Program.
The program is in line with Republic Act 9003, or “Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000” stating the responsibilities of every office/workplace to segregate waste at source, and to help less fortunate school-children.
Currently, there are two municipal-operated Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) (Municipal Hall MRF and Municipal Dumpsite MRF), used as recycling centers.
MRFs recycles office papers, cartons, plastic, and cans which can be sold, thus creates income in a modest amount.
But through continuous effort and support, the generated income shall be used to help fund and assist school-children.
As of this day, the program extends its hands to twelve (12) scholars (from Kindergarten to sixth grade) who were given school supplies.
