In light with the October 16 and 29 occurrence, wherein the municipality felt the magnitude 6.3 and 6.4 earthquake, leaving some noticeable cracks in elementary and high school buildings, the Local Government of Nabunturan took immediate actions.
On October 16, an initial incident report was submitted by Ms. Jennifer F. Echavez of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRMMO) after their assessment to various schools in the municipality, highlighting the schools with cracks found.
In the initial assessment, Engineer Thelma Gisma, Municipal Engineer, declared that the buildings were still fit to hold classes.
Until the second earthquake on the morning of October 29, Mayor Chelita C. Amatong called for an emergency meeting in response to the phenomenon that have brought fear to the people of Nabunturan.
The Provincial Office of the Governor also issued orders for the cancellation of classes in all levels in the municipality as precautionary measures.
The next day, three teams composed of representatives from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Nabunturan Emergency Response Team (NERT), and Office of the Municipal Engineer, were dispatched to check vulnerable school buildings in the municipality that have been found with visible cracks.
The teachers and disaster focal(s) were then enlightened with the status of the buildings and the necessary measures to be done. From the assessment, most of the school buildings are fit to hold classes.
On November 3 to 11, 2019, the Nabunturan Emergency Response Team (NERT) under the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office flew to Bacolod City, Negros Occidental to undergo a Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) Course at Amity Public Safety Academy.
Thirteen (13) NERT responders along with provincial responders and rescuers from Monkayo and Mawab completed the 8-day CSSR course that is in accordance with the Program for the Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) standard.
This is to capacitate the rescuers and responders in a highly critical event like Earthquake which is unprecedented by nature.
With an equipped and capacitated Disaster Risk Reduction and Management rescuers, the Local Government Unit of Nabunturan seeks to provide fast and quality services to Nabunturanons whenever, wherever.
