On September 03, 2021, Mayor Chelita C. Amatong joined the Brigada Eskwela Program of Pangutosan Elementary School headed by School Principal, Rolly Amante.

In a Facebook post, she expressed her heartfelt delight and happiness to be able to take part in the said activity,
“Personal ko na nagatoo nga ang kalambuan sa usa ka lugar magsugod sa pag-edukar sa usa kabata, hinungdan nga ang edukasyon usa sa prayoridad sa atong gobyerno.” [I personally believe that the development of a society starts with educating the children; thus, education is one of the priorities of our government.]
She further expressed her excitement,
“Gikalipay kaayo nako nga nakahigayon gyud kita og tudlo og basa sa pipila ka mga bata sa Barangay Pangutosan pinaagi sa programa sa Pangutosan Elementary School nga gipanguluhan ni Sir Rolly Amante. [I am so thrilled with the opportunity of being able to teach some of our children in Barangay Pangutosan through the program of Pangutosan Elementary School headed by Sir Rolly Amante.]

The said activity is one of the highlights of Brigada Eskwela 2021, which is known as Brigada Pagbasa that aims to address the challenges on reading comprehension and literacy.
Clouie Jane, a 7 year old girl, showed quite an impression as she read the letters and distinguished the examples. Another child in the neighborhood, namely Jaymon (10 years old) and an incoming grade 5 student, also showed good recognition of words and letters.
Despite that, Mayor Chickay asked Sir Amante to continue the house-to-house visitation and reading activity for supplementing and assessing the children’s learning.
The activity should not stop as a mere part of the completion of Brigada Eskwela, but should continue for our children to improve themselves amidst the pandemic. (MIO)
